New project at the Social Mind Center led by Christophe Heintz / Beliefs fostering dishonest behavior: Combining ethnographic and experimental evidence (BFD)

The project will investigate the factors that determine people's attitudes toward social rules or norms that are aimed at improving social welfare. Dishonesty can be characterized as failing to respect these rules, and adhering to them can be necessary for stable cooperation and resolving collective action problems. However, against this first operational characterization, ethnographic and experimental data suggest that depending on the context, people may break a rule and still think of themselves as honest.

ICCI webinar on "The Origins of Monsters" is launched

The International Cognition and Culture Institute (ICCI) is regularly hosting an online "book club" around different scientific topics in relation with the SOMICS – Constructing Social Minds: Coordination, Communication, and Cultural Transmission project. The book clubs take the form of a thorough and frank discussion, joined by the book's author. 

The current topic is around David Wengrow’s book “The Origins of Monsters”. The debate is published on the ICCI website

Social Mind Center hosted the 6th Joint Action Meeting (JAM)

The Social Mind Center hosted the 6th Joint Action Meeting (JAM) from July 1-4, 2015. This meeting brings together about 200 Cognitive Scientists from all over the world who share an interest in individuals’ ability to act together. A focus of this year’s conference was new work on the cognitive and brain basis of improvisation.

ERC Synergy grant Coordination, Communication, and Cultural Transmission began on 1st January 2015

Work on the ERC Synergy grant Coordination, Communication, and Cultural Transmission began on 1st January 2015. CEU hosted two week long meetings to develop collaborative research ideas. 

As part of the Synvergy grant partnerships was established with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig Germany and St. Andrews University, Scotland. This enables CEU researchers to compare social cognition in humans and other primate species.
