Thom Scott-Phillips is a Senior Researcher in the Department of Cognitive Science, working as part of the OSCAR group in the Social Mind Center. His research focuses on evolutionary and cognitive approaches to mind and culture, and in particular to communication and language. He worked previously at the universities of Edinburgh (in Linguistics) and Durham (in Anthropology). He has received several prestigious fellowships and prizes for his research. His first book, Speaking Our Minds, about the evolutionary origins of human communication, was published in 2014.

When he is not at work, he is often to be found dancing the lindy hop.
